Plot Summary :
Gabby Espinoza (Adrienne Bailon) is captain of the Cathedral High Phantoms volleyball team. Her mother died when she was little, and recently, a fire claimed the life of her firefighter father. Coincidentally, the fire was in the Madonna’s school, the Phantoms’ rival. After struggling with her father’s death and the presence of her former rivals in the school and on her team, Gabby finally adjusts to the situation and the girls all work together to win the volleyball championship.
After they won the championship, they all went on to do great things. Rada Kincaid ended up marrying her boyfriend Monster and opened up her own chain of car body shops. Kaitlan graduated from NYU and now owns her own chain of fat free donut shops. Lettie graudated from Stanford with honors, and is now a professor at Harvard. Becca Waltey graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and is now the most hottest sportswear designer in New York. After graduating from USC, Lauren McDonald won her second National Volleyball HS Championship, assisting Coach Harlan at Cathedral High. Plot Summary :
Inspired by the hit off-Broadway play, Amara Winter (Ciara), a strikingly beautiful and charismatic young singer, is on the verge of pop stardom. Raised in the church by her father, Reverend Dr. Kenneth Winter (Ralph Tresvant) and mother, Lillian Winter (Lynn Whitfield), Amara and her younger brother Luke (Kevin Phillips) have a very strong bond. After her father’s untimely death, her mother is thrust into the limelight in the role as preacher, a daring move that ultimately catapults her to the top of the gospel world. Paralleling her mother’s success, Amara soon becomes a huge star in her own right, taking the pop music world by storm.
Conflict begins to ensue when her mother is confronted with, and unequivocally disapproves of, Amara’s secular music and videos. Amara must learn to pursue her dreams while both navigating the often treacherous world of celebrity and striving to remain true to herself and family. Amara and her mother must work through their differences realizing that their journeys are not quite so different after all.
